X (Twitter)

X usernames for sale

X has the oldest handle namespace of any platform we work in. Twitter launched in 2006, when nobody thought a username was worth anything, and the people who claimed single words then still hold most of them.

The result is a market with genuine OG supply and unusually wide price dispersion: two four-letter handles can differ by a factor of ten on nothing but what the word means.

X price bands

Indicative ranges from completed and in-progress deals. Every handle is quoted individually — these are the shape of the market, not a price list.

  • 3 letters

    from $2,000

    @abc, @xyz

    Thin supply and steady demand. Recognisable initialisms sit well above the floor.

  • 4 letters

    from $300

    @apex, @luxe

    Widest dispersion of any tier on X — the word matters more here than the length.

  • OG handles

    from $1,000

    @money, @y

    X's deepest tier, because the namespace opened in 2006 and single words were free.

  • Dictionary words

    $300 – $5,000

    @drift, @chrome

    Priced on how commercially useful the word is, not on how many letters it has.

What the age of the namespace does to price

Because X opened so early, a far higher share of its short handles are real English words rather than letter salad. That pushes the median quality up and the median price with it.

It also means dormancy is common. A large number of desirable X handles sit on accounts that have not posted in a decade, which is where most of our sourcing effort goes.

How a transfer works on X

As on Instagram, X provides no transfer mechanism. The handle is freed when the holder renames, and claimed by the buyer immediately after. The exposure is the seconds in between.

X's inactive account policy has been announced and paused more than once over the years. We do not price on the assumption that a dormant handle will be released — that is speculation, and it is not what you are buying.

Who buys them

Mostly brands consolidating an identity across platforms, and people who already have the same short name on Instagram or Telegram and want the set to match. Cross-platform consistency is worth more than any single handle in isolation, which is worth knowing before you buy one in isolation.

Frequently asked questions

Can an X username be transferred officially?
No. X has no transfer feature. A handle moves when the current holder renames their account and the buyer claims the freed string, which is a coordinated release rather than a platform action.
What does a short X handle cost?
Four letters start around $300 and three letters around $2,000, but the word matters more than the count. A meaningful four-letter word regularly clears a random three-letter string.
Will X release inactive handles?
It has been announced and then paused several times. We do not price handles on the assumption that a purge is coming, and we would treat any broker who does as a warning sign.
Can I get the same handle on X and Instagram?
Sometimes, and it is worth asking. Matching handles across platforms is worth more than the sum of the parts, so we check the whole set before quoting on one.
Is my payment protected?
Funds sit in escrow from payment through to transfer and reach the seller only once the handle is confirmed on your account.
