Rare handles

Rare usernames for sale

'Rare' gets used loosely enough to be worthless as a word. Here it means something specific: a handle whose supply is genuinely fixed, and whose scarcity you can count rather than assert.

Three-letter names, single characters, clean single words and pre-convention registrations all qualify. A five-letter invented string does not, however few people happen to want it.

Rarity tiers and what they cost

Indicative ranges from completed and in-progress deals. Every handle is quoted individually — these are the shape of the market, not a price list.

  • Single characters

    Quoted individually

    @y, @k

    A few hundred exist per platform. The scarcest thing in the market.

  • 2 letters

    $5,000+

    @01, @xy

    676 combinations per platform. Almost never offered.

  • 3 letters

    from $2,000

    @btc, @zed

    17,576 combinations. The scarcest tier that trades with any regularity.

  • Clean single words

    from $1,000

    @money, @chrome

    Scarce by provenance rather than by count — the window that produced them is shut.

Rarity you can count

Length is the only rarity that has a number attached. There are 17,576 three-letter combinations per platform and a few hundred single characters. Those are facts, not marketing.

Everything else described as rare is really a claim about demand. A dictionary word is not rare — there are tens of thousands of them — it is desirable, which is a different property that behaves differently in a downturn.

The tiers, in order of genuine scarcity

Single characters, then two letters, then three. Below that, clean single words claimed before conventions filled in — scarce not by count but because the window that produced them is closed.

Then real dictionary words at four letters, which are limited by the language rather than by the alphabet. Then everything else, where price is demand rather than supply.

Buying at the top of the market

Above a few thousand dollars, the deal stops being a purchase and starts being a negotiation. The holder is not a seller — they are someone who owns a thing and might part with it — and the approach matters more than the offer.

Escrow matters more here too, in direct proportion to the number. Funds sit in escrow from payment through to transfer and reach the seller only once the handle is confirmed on your account.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a username genuinely rare?
A fixed supply you can count. Single characters, two and three letter strings, and clean single words claimed before naming conventions filled in. Anything else described as rare is usually a claim about demand.
Is a rare username a good investment?
Short and clean handles on growing platforms have historically held value, because supply is fixed while the user base expands. That is a description of the past. A handle is only worth anything while its platform is, and platform relevance can fall.
What is the rarest kind of handle?
A single character. A few hundred exist per platform and they effectively never come to market, so they are quoted one at a time rather than against a price band.
How do you verify a handle before I pay?
We confirm who controls the account and by what route, and on Telegram, where usernames can be held on-chain, ownership is verifiable directly. Payment sits in escrow until the handle is on your account.
Can I sell a rare handle through you?
Yes. Message us on Telegram with the handle and the platform and we will tell you what it is likely to clear and how long it should take.

Looking for a specific handle?

Send it to us on Telegram. We will tell you who holds it, whether they are reachable, and what it is likely to cost — before you commit to anything. Escrow on every transfer.
