3 letters

3-letter usernames for sale

Using the Latin alphabet, exactly 17,576 three-letter combinations exist on any given platform. Every one of them was claimed years ago on every platform worth having one on. That fixed ceiling, against a user base that keeps growing, is the entire argument for the tier.

It is also why three letters is where the market stops behaving like a market and starts behaving like a collection: at this supply, price is set by who is willing to sell rather than by what things are worth.

What three letters cost

Indicative ranges from completed and in-progress deals. Every handle is quoted individually — these are the shape of the market, not a price list.

  • Random letter strings

    $2,000 – $4,000

    @qkz, @xvb

    Short, but with nothing to say for themselves beyond the length.

  • Pronounceable non-words

    $3,000 – $8,000

    @zed, @kit

    Reads like a name even though it is not one. The most common trade in the tier.

  • Initialisms and tickers

    $5,000 – $15,000

    @btc, @vip

    A specific buyer already exists, which is what pulls the band up.

  • Real words

    $8,000+

    @art, @sun

    Rare at three letters. Priced individually rather than against a band.

What separates a $2,000 handle from a $20,000 one

Whether it is a word. @art and @qkz are both three letters; only one of them means anything, and the gap in price is an order of magnitude.

Whether it maps to something real. Three letters is the natural length of an airline code, a currency ticker, a stock symbol and a company initialism, and a handle that lands on one of those has a specific buyer with a specific budget.

Whether you can say it. A three-letter string you have to spell out loses most of the advantage that made it short in the first place.

Which platform, and why it changes the price

The same three letters are not worth the same everywhere. X opened in 2006 and has the deepest genuine supply; Instagram is the most competitive demand; Telegram is the easiest to transfer cleanly because ownership can be held on-chain; Snapchat is the thinnest because nothing there ever comes back.

If you want the same three letters across several platforms, say so before we quote. Assembling a set is a different search from finding one name, and doing it in one pass is far cheaper than doing it three times.

What to check before you pay

Who currently holds the handle and whether the account looks live. A dormant account with a reachable owner is the ideal case; a live account with a following is a different, more expensive conversation.

How the transfer will run on that specific platform, and who is exposed during it. On Instagram and X there is a release window where a third party can take the freed name. That window is the risk you are paying a broker to manage.

Frequently asked questions

How many three-letter usernames exist?
17,576 per platform using letters only — 26 cubed. Adding digits and underscores raises the count, but those variants are not what the market means by a three-letter handle.
How much does a three-letter username cost?
From about $2,000 for a random letter string, into five figures for an initialism that maps to a real company or ticker. The word matters more than the count once you are inside the tier.
Are any three-letter usernames still free?
Not on any established platform. Every combination was claimed years ago, which is why the secondary market is the only route.
Is three letters always better than four?
No. A real four-letter word such as @fire regularly outsells a meaningless three-letter string. Length sets the floor; meaning sets the price.
Can I get the same three letters on more than one platform?
Sometimes, and it is worth asking up front. A matching set is worth more than its parts, and searching for all of them at once is much cheaper than repeating the search.
