OG handles
OG usernames for sale
An OG username is a clean one: a single word or a very short string with no digits, no underscores, no dots, no suffixes — the kind of handle you could only claim before naming conventions filled in and everyone started appending things.
It is the one category defined by when it was taken rather than by what it is. That window is closed on every platform, permanently, which is the whole basis of the price.
What OG handles cost
Indicative ranges from completed and in-progress deals. Every handle is quoted individually — these are the shape of the market, not a price list.
Obscure single words
$500 – $1,500@larp, @zed
Technically OG, but with limited demand behind them.
Common nouns
$1,500 – $6,000@mint, @chrome
Where most OG trades land. Clean, useful, obtainable.
High-demand words
$6,000 – $15,000@money, @star
A commercial buyer already exists for each of these.
Single characters
Quoted individually@y, @k
A few hundred exist per platform. Priced as one-offs, not against a band.
What actually makes a handle OG
The absence of compromise. @money is OG; @money_official, @realmoney and @money2024 are what people register when @money is gone. Every one of those suffixes is a record of arriving late.
Age matters, but it is not the definition. A handle registered in 2011 that reads @xk_9922 is old, not OG. The market pays for the clean string.
Why the supply cannot grow
Every platform had a period where clean single words were free because nobody had realised they were worth anything. Instagram's ran roughly 2010 to 2012, X's from 2006, Telegram's from 2013, Snapchat's from 2011.
Each of those windows shut, and none of them reopen. Reclaimed handles are not returned to the pool in any meaningful volume on any platform, so the OG supply is not merely limited — it is fixed, and can only shrink as accounts are lost.
What an OG handle is worth
Wide range, because 'OG' spans a common word and an obscure one. A recognisable noun with commercial use starts high and stays there. An obscure single word is often cheaper than a good four-letter name despite being technically rarer.
The platform matters as much as the word. The same string can be worth several times more on Instagram than on Snapchat purely because of who is competing for it.
Frequently asked questions
- What does OG mean for a username?
- Original — a clean handle with no numbers, underscores, dots or suffixes, of the kind that could only be claimed in a platform's earliest years before the good strings were gone.
- Is an old handle automatically OG?
- No. Age is common to OG handles but is not what defines them. A 2011 registration that reads @xk_9922 is old, not OG. What the market pays for is the clean string.
- Why can't more OG handles be created?
- Because the window that produced them closed on every platform and does not reopen. Reclaimed handles are not returned to the pool in meaningful volume anywhere, so the supply is fixed and can only shrink.
- How much does an OG username cost?
- From around $500 for an obscure single word to five figures for a common commercial noun. The range is wide because the category is defined by provenance rather than by length.
- Can you find a specific OG handle?
- Often. Most good OG handles have never been listed anywhere — they sit on accounts whose owners have never thought about selling. Identifying the holder and opening that conversation is the work we do.
